Does the Commissary Provide Overage?!

I have been asked this question several times in the past few weeks so I decided to make it into a post...the answer to this frequently asked question is YES! The commissary does provide overages to customers. For those of you who have no clue what I am talking about, let me provide you with a scenario:

Let's say the commissary has Ore-Ida Frozen Potatoes on sale for $0.50. You print out a coupon for $1.50 off any 2 Ore-Ida potatoes. Upon checking out with the cashier, your potatoes will total $1.00 but since your coupon is good for $1.50, you will then make an overage of $0.50.

Some of my readers have commented that cashiers who recognize this overage have been manually changing the coupon to cover only the exact cost of the product. This is against the commissary coupon policy! The commissary policy clearly states that "Valid coupons will be entered at the value stated on the coupon. If the value of the coupon exceeds the cost of the product, the customer will be given the full value of the coupon." If you are interested in reading the extensive DECA coupon policy, it can be found here in Chapter 7 of the Customer Service Manual.

For those of you that have issues with overages in the future, I would ask to speak to a manager and then contact the main headquarters of DECA if the issue is not resolved. I hope this helps!
